Dear people from the future, hello from June of 2026! I assume you ended up here the same way I did- by having the same issue as OP. The good news is that I have answers for you. I found essentially two ways to solve this. Method 1 (plug-and-play): This is the simplest solution, and it's what I ultimately went with. The materials cost me about $19 excluding tax and with free Prime shipping. You need to get two cables: a JST XH2.54 4-Pin to USB-A 2.0 Male adapter and a USB-A 2.0 Female to USB 2.0 Female 9-Pin Internal Header adapter. Depending on your needs and preferences, that second adapter may be optional or different. I went with the 9-pin header for simplicity's sake, but technically this only uses 4 pins, so if you have an adapter that uses the 5-pin header instead, it would also work. And of course, if you can reach a regular USB-A port with the cable, you can technically just plug it straight in and skip the header adapter. Method 2 (more work, but more elegant and slightly cheaper): It's worth taking anything from an AI with a grain of salt, but Gemini claims that Kingwin's pinout on the JST connector follows the USB 2.0 standard, which would make sense. So if you have some wire strippers and are comfortable splicing wires, you can make your own cable. Do it well and this method will result in a stronger and more manageable cable with fewer potential points of failure than the other method. With some heat shrink tubing, this can end up looking pretty good, too. Even if you've never spliced wires before, I encourage you to visit Youtube University and give it a try. It's easier than you might think, and if you'd like to learn, this is a relatively low-risk project to get your feet wet on. All you need is a JST XH2.54 4-Pin connector, which you can buy in 10-pack for less than $8 or even cut off of a "donor cable" if you happen to have one you don't need. You're going to splice it onto a 5-pin or 9-pin USB 2.0 Female Internal Header cable. If you don't have a donor, you can have this one for about $7. Here is the advice I was able to find about the pinout. If you're trying this out for the first time, you'll just need to cut one end off of the USB 2.0 Female Internal Header cable and splice the wires from the XH2.54 header on following that pinout. Give it a try to learn something new and save $4. But of course, no judgement if you go with Method 1. It'll work fine and is ideal if you have more money than time.
