Could possibly keep the crevasses stuffed with flatter blankets that are very level with the bed and then use gap fillers to eliminate the crevasses. Here's the one I got from Amazon. I used it to connect my bed to my baby's crib so that he's still right beside me, but on a firm, flat surface of his own. I cut the gap filler to size and it works great in creating a flush transition from my bed to his crib.
