Not the person you responded to, but I found this stuff to be pretty helpful for both of our surgeries. We used baby gates instead of crate confinement. Depending on your pup this may or may not work for you guys, but it really made things easier for us and he was relaxed knowing that he could stand up and walk around the room. Biggest thing, throw out that cone the Vet gives you and get them a donut (or similar). If you have any tile/vinyl or slippery floors put down some runners to add traction. Get a jump on bones, toys, and puzzles to help with stimulation. Your vet may give you one, but if not grab a sling that you can use to support their backside during the initial week or so, especially helpful if you have stairs. Since we live in a two-story home we kept pee pads upstairs, along with extra medicine, food..etc in-case getting downstairs wasn't feasible. Put a sign on your doorbell asking not to ring if you pup is reactive to it. If you have a partner I highly recommend trying to rotate the care, it can be a lot and overwhelming at first. The first couple days to week~ are easy. You're mostly watching a coma patient, it's once they start feeling better that it becomes harder! Even though you do need to be careful, the plate they use isn't exactly weak. It's OK for them to get and walk around, and once your vet clears it you can take them for walks. Don't skip out on those, your pup will appreciate it, but it'll also help with recovery long-term. They lose so much muscle from the injured leg and anything you can to keep that leg moving will help.
