I feel this one in my bones. I'm mostly a sci-fi modeler. Finding pics of actual filming models can be challenging. I mean, yeah - you build it and paint it the way you want but I always strive to replicate the "on-screen" look. The filming model of the USS Reliant from Wrath of Khan shows a lot of the accent colors are a baby blue color. On-screen, you never get that impression because space is dark. The only in-your-face blues on the ship are the shuttle bay doors in the rear that are lit up. The kit instructions call for "duck egg blue" but I just can't... It doesn't look like that in the movie. So, what to do? I ended up mixing some blue and grey to tone down the blue and make it look more like what I see on screen. Another example... I got this bright idea (in hindsight, not very bright), that I was going to build every ship with the name of Enterprise - or at least the major ones. Ignoring the sloop/schooner from the late 1770's for now. So I bought a Revell U.S.S. Enterprise carrier, CVN-65. Not knowing much about the history of the ship, come to find out it had gone through a number of overhauls during its service but I would stick with the out of box kit. The first struggle I had was the color of the hull below the water line. Instructions and box art show that it's black, while I've always seen red in other models and other naval vessels. I asked around and some folks confidently stated that it should be red. Were they right? I dunno, but I went with red. Another issue I found is that most photos.I could find of this carrier in this configuration (with the beehive ECM), are black and white. The beehive was removed during and overhaul in the 1970's so I needed to stick with the photos I could find prior to that overhaul. If I recall correctly, I did find some color photos but the vast majority were in black and white and I had some difficulty finding color photos of sections of the ship that I needed to see. Anyway, I'm rambling now but these are examples of why I have so many mostly finished kits and why a single kit takes me so long to complete. I get bogged down in details that will never matter since I'm the only one that will see the finished product.
