I lived it. It fully changed my career path. A lot of actors during that time basically had to "stockpile," for lack of a better word. So the A list movie stars were taking B list roles in TV. The B list stars were taking C list guest stars. Celebrity name talent started doing commercials which was largely unheard of (it was considered disgusting to do ads, like it was selling out. It's why so many actors did ads overseas). Voice over became celebrity driven. So as a rising actor who was up and coming in commercials and voice over, I was auditioning for leads in shows and up for major spots constantly. Then, the biggest opportunities just pissed right off. So presumably I could've had much larger roles and opportunities in my career if it weren't for that strike. Arguably it pushed me more into writing, and I did trend for like a week on the internet with my parody kids books. So it's possible that wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the strike.
