This one is so lightweight and awesome. I use it for that exact purpose. I even bought another one that was more expensive with a laptop padded section. No comparison, this first one has great pockets and is barely there. Also don’t forget to fill your neck pillow with clothes too. I’ve seen people bring on full size “pillows” that were just filled with clothes too.
My wife and I each bought one of these - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJCB1Y9Y?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title I got black and she got gray. We had no issues on our outbound flight from DEN to PHX. On our return, I was asked to put both bags in the sizer. Never having done it, I put mine in and put my weight on top and it went in. Luckily nothing broke inside my bag. My wife had something in one of the outer compartments that caused it to not go in. We did some repositioning and once again I put my weight on it and it went into the sizer. The strange thing is that each time the bag went under the seat with no problem. Maybe Frontier is skimping on their sizer. Given that these go for $37, if we get 4-5 uses out of them, we are coming out ahead. We didn't experience any issues with the bags. The backpack straps are "okay". I wouldn't do any trekking or rucking with them. The compartments are nice and I think they have a pretty good layout overall. I'd recommend the Ecohub bag for a personal item. I have no affiliation with Ecohub other than I purchased one of their bags. As a warning, when we boarded from PHX to DEN, the gate agent was very vocal in letting people know that fanny packs, purses, and duffels count as a personal item. People were filling up their coat pockets with toiletries and such so that their bag would fit into the sizer. Good luck!
