Knitting books are a great idea - I always have to choose between a super interesting book and the perfect yarn when I'm shopping on a budget, and the yarn usually wins. The gift of a book that I wanted and couldn't afford would be awesome. I recently picked up Aran Knitting by Alice Starmore and would recommend it as well.
