HIMI is hated on so much in this sub. But I’m a beginner and it works just fine for experimentation and just plain gouache fun. But you have to be mindful that it can grow mold. You can prevent that with the HIMI Wetting Spray designed for that purpose. You spray before and after you use the gouache paints. It wets the paint and prepares it for use. And when you’re ready to close the palette, you spray again so it stays moist without mold growth. I think they work just fine for beginners with this spray in use.

I have the HIMI set and I bought the HIMI Gouache Spray. You spray before storing it and when you want to activate/wet it. No mold no problems.
