If you leave the plant stalks in water they may stay alive long enough for the eggs to hatch and let them eat a chuck of the plants. I cut stalks and put them into the little plastic water vial things to use for caterpillars to eat. the worry with a bucket of water would be them falling in, or them trying to leave the plants and being stopped by the water (they often leaves the plants to molt). If you do find eggs and want to do the vials to try to keep the plants longer, these is what I'm talking about https://www.amazon.com/BEADNOVA-Floral-Plastic-Arrangement-Decoration/dp/B08L5YW5SN

try these I am going to add some roundup/whatever herbicide and use on the ivy that my neighbors are sharing. Hopefully as the bastard vines drink, it will shrivel them up!
