It’s not going to ‘lose’ your connection if you unplug it. That’s there because a lot of non-tech savvy people will unplug it as they don’t know what it’s for, and then call because their internet doesn’t work. Same thing for power outages. The coax line has to be active in the cabinet. They often disconnect those to prevent packet loss (read: internet issues).
