So I did manage to find this, and it's affordable enough to be worth giving a shot so I'll try that before returning the AC. Thanks for the suggestion — this is my first time installing an AC of any kind, and in all of my shopping, there was no mention of inrush spikes being a thing. Hopefully this works!
