I really enjoyed this book. Among other things (and good stories) it addresses this. Basically you just need to do your best to train the people correctly, and then let them have at it. Correct as you go but give people the latitude to make mistakes, self-correct, etc. Otherwise, if you have subordinates and you can't do that, you become an annoying micromanager that nobody likes. https://www.amazon.com/Its-Your-Ship-Management-Anniversary/dp/145552302X
