Brush the cats as often as possible during the unfucking. Damp dust anything that isn’t fabric so the hair is caught in the rag and not flying into the air like with a duster. Vacuum SLOW as possible so it lifts more hair and make sure you empty the vacuum super often so it has more airflow. Also cheap life hack if you don’t have a bunch of attachments: it is not a crime to straight up vacuum the couch!!!! Anything with enough surface area for the vacuum just use the vacuum it’s so much easier. Cheapest BEST option for removing fur from small things and stubborn stuff where the vacuum doesn’t work well buy these I use the metal one the most but the variety pack is good bc not every fabric can tolerate the metal. Under $10 and use them on everything! They work so well on pet beds, pillows, carpeted cat stuff like cat trees, chairs, anything the vacuum doesn’t suck out of the couch, even stubborn spots on rugs and stuff if the vacuum isn’t working. Low budget this is the only thing that will do it all with cat hair but does take effort. If you’ve got more budget the ChomChom is my other favorite tool! It’s faster but doesn’t get as deep into fabrics. I like it bc it’s large so it’s great for couches, I use it as a lint roller on clothes I’m currently wearing, great to remove hair from like blankets and stuff before putting them in the wash, etc. The cheaper tools are better for small stuff and deep cleaning hair removal but the chomchom helps me keep on top of the hair with quick maintenance. If you are unfucking the place you will probably have to repeat these steps a few times. As you reveal and go through piles fur will continue flying off new things you reveal. Like while you are working on the big clean I would include a quick vacuum daily until you reach the maintenance phase. If the fur has been neglected for a while your vacuum will keep pulling hair out for quite a while!
