I keep my stuff for a long long time Then you don't want a Neo; it has a higher total-cost of ownership vs a Macbook Air. There's A LOT of corners cut on a Neo for the healthy margins that Apple loves. If you want something at the same price point; you can buy a 2021 14" 16GB 512GB M1 Pro for $600; you really don't need a warranty with Apple Silicon macbooks, the current Macbooks are about as reliable as an iPhone since they have more in common with them than any of the Intel machines; they produce a lot less heat which contributes to the overall reliability of the machines. It doesn't make any sense to buy an Apple Refurbished 256GB M4 Air when you can buy an open-box 15" M5 Air for $1021 from Best Buy https://www.bestbuy.com/product/apple-macbook-air-15-inch-laptop-m5-chip-with-10-core-cpu-and-10-core-gpu-16gb-memory-512gb-ssd-starlight/JJGCQLK6JZ "Fair condition" just means the packaging is beat up or a little booklet/pamphlet is missing from the packaging. It's less than $100 more than an Apple refurbished M4 Air and you get 256GB more storage (Which is a "steal" for Apple pricing) and superior resale/trade-in value and superior performance due to M5 chip. Plus you get Bluetooth 6 vs Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 7 vs Wi-Fi 6E. An extra year of OS-updates too which is important for you specifically wanting to keep the laptop for as long as possible. You get the same 1 year warranty with Best Buy open-box. If the warranty date is wrong because it's a customer return then contact Apple Support and provide them with a picture or copy of your receipt. Apple will reset the start date to the day you purchased the open-box device. Or if you want something brand spanking new; it's on sale for only $1150 at Costco (90 day return window in case it goes on sale cheaper but I kinda doubt it) https://www.costco.com/p/-/macbook-air-laptop-15-inch-with-apple-m5-chip-built-for-apple-intelligence/4000444232 or Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-2026-MacBook-15-inch-Laptop/dp/B0GR1DVSQP

definitely verify with curriculum whether you need Windows or if you can use macOS or Linux. I would recommend macOS if you use an iPhone and iPad definitely. The integration is killer. This MacBook Air 15" is great. You're going to be doing a lot of reading and a 15-inch screen is going to make a huge difference for you. This is a great Windows machine. The Microsoft Surface is a great quality machine and my partner has one.
