definitely verify with curriculum whether you need Windows or if you can use macOS or Linux. I would recommend macOS if you use an iPhone and iPad definitely. The integration is killer. This MacBook Air 15" is great. You're going to be doing a lot of reading and a 15-inch screen is going to make a huge difference for you. This is a great Windows machine. The Microsoft Surface is a great quality machine and my partner has one.
