Hi! My debut novel comes out next month. It's a story that I started when I was 15, and have been working on it ever since (I will be 30 in the fall). It's a Dystopian/Dark Academia story, centered on Emoura Hastings. I got inspired after reading The Hunger Games for the first time as a teenager, and realizing that there was little to no representation of Black female heroines in the dystopian genre. Book blurb: All that Emoura perceives as reality teeters on the edge of collapse. In the wake of the American Empire collapse, a new nation has formed. With a new nation, comes a new hierarchy–the First Ring corporate dynasties; the Second Ring sycophants; and the Third Ring have-nots in a world of have-too-much. When a Third Ringer mysteriously vanishes from the prestigious New World University, her cousin, Emoura enrolls with the goal of solving the mystery. On her journey, Emoura becomes a target of a sadistic secret society, whose goal rests in cleansing the university of lower class students. As she encounters inconvenient truths, she discovers her latent divine powers that will aid her in collapsing the new nation. Hello! My name is Bryson, and I am a brand new indie author. I'm releasing my debut "The Secret Society," next month, and it's a project I've been working on for the last fifteen years. I started it when I was fifteen after reading the Hunger Games and falling in love with it. This is my first novel, but I also write screenplays and have been getting into indie filmmaking. I am in love with the dystopian genre across mediums, mainly because I am a political, historical, and social studies person by nature (sometimes to a fault), and I love how it influences my ability to craft my own worlds. However, a pattern I noticed is the lack of BIPOC or Queer MCs in the Dystopian genre--whether it be books, TV, or Film. Which is what prompt me to create my own story.
