Intention vs Action are 2 different things. However, there is still retribution one way or the other. Regardless of the Mothers decision, the baby still suffers the act of being killed, so in essence, the spirit of a Buddhist would be it would be better to give your own life to save another. The unborn that is aborted only understands it was killed and becomes angry little ghosts. The Buddha spoke in detail about how a woman will act after they have abortions, it's a terrible suffering! So if you really wish to debate, don't debate me, debate the Buddha. Also, there is no wrong in not killing, but no matter how you try to spin it, you are killing a sentient being, so that's on the person that feels it's justified but they will still reap the retribution of Karma. Karma is always fair, so as I mentioned, I follow the Precepts, the first precept is no killing which also means no harming of any sentient beings in any realm, it's not exclusive to the human realm. Okay, I think we have both said our peace but if you feel you would like to add, of course do so. You may enjoy this short Q&A to the Venerable Master Hua from different people on this topic: https://www.drbachinese.org/online_reading/dharma_talks/Innocent_Little_Ghosts_b/Innocent_Little_Ghosts_b4.htm There is also good book called Little Innocent Ghost, you may find it interesting as it really helps people understand more of cause and effect on this issues regardless of circumstances. https://www.amazon.com/Innocent-Little-Ghosts-English-Chinese/dp/9867328353 Lastly, there is a good talk on youtube by the late Venerable Master Chin Kung on this topic, he really digs deep on this issue as well. I'm not sharing to "win" a debate, I don't care about, but why not hear some great Masters explain this topic instead of someone on reddit like myself. Anyways, here you go incase you are interested. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL86cwVaprg5coXAX4YCmwpDcJG4lFkxn1 Some good resources from a Buddhist perspective. Take care. Namo Amituofo _/l\_
