I fear you just probably just got a bad brand. Best to just use an adapter instead of a whole cable, that's what I do with my laptop. I have an adapter on the end of my thunderbolt cable attached to my monitor at work, and the same for my monitor at home. Try this and this together. I haven't used this brand (I live in a different country), but it has better reviews. I went on the one you listed and even amazon says it gets returned a lot.
