You can absolutely use these if you know what you're doing. I personally have built a few and regularly use them while traveling. BOTH circuits you are using must have nothing else plugged in, esp when the car is charging. neither circuit can be GFCI protected. You know how your bathroom outlets have a little test/reset button? Neither circuit can have one of these. The circuits must be on opposite phases, also called legs. Your house has 2x 120V wires coming in from the grid. About half the circuits in your house using one, the other half use the other. You need 2x circuits, each on separate legs. To check if the circuits are the correct ones, plug them both in, then test the 240V outlet with this device: https://a.co/d/02s15frx It should light up 240V. If it doesnt light up at all, it means both outlets are on the same phase, try a different pair of outlets. 4) when you are unplugging any part of this setup, YOU MUST, MUST, MUST unplug it in the correct order. You must unplug the charger from the car FIRST, THEN unplug the charger from this unit. Then, and ONLY then, can you unplug either end from the wall. If you unplug those regular 120V plugs while the car is plugged in, the exposed prongs of the outlet become live. Source: I shocked myself doing this.
