You had a spiral bound atlas of maps in your car. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/People-Atlanta-Georgia-American-Regional/dp/0875306853. You looked up the street name in the index, found the page and coordinates, and drove there. Back then, people knew their way around a lot better than nowadays. You had to, there was no other way outside of stopping and asking for directions. Visits were done on paper, and dropped off at the office at the end of the day. An OASIS took about the same amount of time as now. You just got used to each page and where to check boxes. In some ways it was faster, because multiple assessments were on each page so you could check each one quickly with a pencil instead of now having to check, swipe, check, swipe, etc...
