Signs you aren't grooming enough: Tumbleweeds of fur, clumps of loose fur coming off with your hand during baths, your screenshots 😃 We've all been there. I realized this when I noticed white fur tumbleweeds in my apartment hallway haha. Here's my grooming routine and tools (picked up from watching this YT): (Optional) Grooming Rake - Good if your dog isn't regularly groomed, or has a ridiculous amount for removal. Dual-Sided 17/9 Rake (Optional) 32-blade Extra Fine Double Wide Rake Finishing Comb Note: Furminator Deshedding Tools are not good for double coats. They end up stripping out the outer coat as well and (supposedly) damage the outer coat permanently. Start with (optional) grooming rake, then move on (or start with) the rake with lowest number (9-side Rake). The numbers are the count of blades, so lower numbers mean wider spaces between them. Keep combing until either no more fur comes off, or otherwise easily glides through. Don't forget the tail, base of the tail, hind areas, belly, neck, and chest. Be really careful around any skin folds (like around the back legs) as they can get caught with the rake and cause an injury. 2) Move to the next lowest number rake (17 of the double side). Repeat as above, until no more fur comes off or it otherwise glides through. 3) (Optional) Switch to the 32-fine rake. It's possible to loosen this one to re-orient the rake head for a better angle. Again, repeat until no more fur comes off, or easily glides. This one is optional as I sometimes just skip directly to the finishing comb. 4) Finally, use the finishing comb. The comb has 2 halves, I usually use the half that has the widest spaces. The comb should catch the last remnants of loose fur or any patches that were missed. Always comb in the direction of the fur, though it will help to go a bit diagonally, or even perpendicular. I'll typically groom as much as I can the day before a bath. Then during the bath see if any clumps of fur still come off, then groom more as needed the day after the bath.
