Bernoulli effect actually shows that window fans are kind of shit. I say that as someone who owns several. The ideal for sucking air out or in is to set it a foot or so away from the window. What I have done in the past is just mount said fan a bit away from the window when I can. That way it doesnt turn on when the nights get hot till later, or maybe not at all. You can also look for barn exhaust fans. They are more industrial looking but will do what you want as well.
