I had a set up similar to that for about 5 years and it worked fine. Put some electrical tape around the connection and more than likely you won’t have a problem. If you wanted to make it look less janky… install an outlet in an outdoor electrical box. Cut off the end of the extension cord and feed into the bottom of the box to power it. Leave the EVSE hanging from that, with a screw or a zip tie supporting it. All under your wooden cover. It will look nice painted. All For about $30.
