Honestly not much can be done in an open space other than to close it up. Floor to ceiling room dividers like this can create visual privacy. But sound will always be an issue. If possible, your friend can coordinate her routine to be home during times she knows her parents wont be. Or she can spend some time in her car to decompress and take private calls. I like privacy and quiet, so something i used to do was wait until everyone was asleep and hog the bathroom; I'd take a 30 minutes steamy bath, do some skin care, watch youtube videos, then come out and go to bed.
