I had this link open for other reasons: https://www.nps.gov/civilwar/search-battle-units-detail.htm?battleUnitCode=UIL0009RC "Regiment [edit: of ballpark 1200 to start] lost during service 1 Officer and 45 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 6 Officers and 241 Enlisted men by disease. Total 293." This unit was a cavalry unit and in the western theater, and so not part of any of the insanity surrounding the 30 miles in between DC/Richmond and the surrounding area as an infantry unit. 25% death rate, 85% of which was from disease. That's a relatively lucky unit... Memoir I'm finishing up (quick read, 2 hours or so) that caused me to have the above link open: The Dispatch Carrier and Memoirs of Andersonville Prison www.amazon.com/Dispatch-Carrier-Memoirs-Andersonville-Classic/dp/B0DFT9PFTF
