I think they still make filters for this model, as I believe a new one from Walmart website is 57 bucks. Although whether the unit itself smells of smoke, I dont know. If you replace the filter with new one you might be OK. Although you can buy a brand new unit of equal power for only 160 bucks (Levoit Vital 200s, also 250CFM.) Or even better : you can make yourself an even more powerful air purifier...for only a few bucks more than that cost of that new filter. As a CR Box/Corsi Rosenthal box will be far better....than that old unit. As a CR Box will be about 440 CFM, almost double that ones 250. All for about 90 bucks. You simply buy a 30ish dollar box fan...and tape a set of 4 merv 13+ filters around it (like filtrete 1900s) into a square/cube. This will get you a more powerful air purifier than every 400 dollar or less purifier...and even better than some 1,000 dollar units. So instead of buying a new filter, and worry if the unit has smoke damage...just spend 30 more and make a CR Box. (Or get s Levoit Vital 200s for 160, but CR Box will be more powerful and cheaper than all.) Here is the filter though if you want to try that. Look inside the unit and take out the filter and throw out the filter. You usually replace the filters every 6 months or so. (A pack of 4 filtrete 1900s is about same cost as that 1 filter - but gets you way more CFM power in CR Box.). If no damage to unit, and you don't smell any smoke, it might be OK with new filter. But sometimes smoke molecules can bind with plastic,wood, materials ? I think. Thus creating a lingering or even nasty smoke odor on some objects. So idk what condition it's in, and I would just sell it or give it away...and make a CR Box instead. (Or Levoit Vital 200s.) Winix + Coway good brands as well, but Levoit more affordable, more value for what you get.
