From my understanding from what you wrote, you are still keeping your anus; they are just sewing it shut? If so, I will warn you, most people here have both the rectum and anus removed, so you might get some different answers. No worries! I also had my rectum removed and my anus sewed shut!!! So, I may be able to share my experience! :) For starters, keeping your anus and just having it sewn shut is significantly easier surgery to heal from than having it removed. I felt no pain down there thanks to the pain meds. I needed to put a lot of gauze on the area to help it heal. I would recommend getting non stick gauze. Regular gauze tended to intertwine with the blood clots, pulling them out, delaying healing. I was able to sit on any soft chair immediately after surgery. For hard chairs (such as wood or metal), I had to sit on a waffle cushion. I will put a link to the specific one that I use below. DO NOT use a donut cushion!!! It will spread your butt cheeks, opening up your wound down there. During healing, the area frequently leaked clear mucus. I kept feminine pads in my underwear to catch the mucus. This is normal. I was told that over time, this will dry up and leak less. Now, about two years later, I still get occasional mucus discharge, about once every three months. Every time it does leak, the area opens up a little and bleeds a bit for about a week. Not a horrific amount, but I make sure to gently pat it dry with toilet paper every time I go to the bathroom. I also still use the waffle cushion for hard chairs. If it don't, sometimes down there opens up and bleeds. At least that's what I've been told. You probably want to discuss this aspect with a medical professional if that concerns you.
