With really really fine hair, usually just letting it hang well result in it tangling in on itself. Braiding it down (Dutch braids or French braids) or keeping it in a manageable style (ponytails, buns, curls) could be helpful. You should visit r/finehair for some good tips. I have some below for you as well: CRUCIAL INFORMATION: Only brush your hair when it's wet. Brushing it dry can cause static and breakage which makes it look more tangled. Wet your hair either through washing it or spraying it down with water. You can just wet your hands and run it through your hair or buy a spray mister to fill with water and mist your hair. You can get them from Amazon . After you wet your hair then you will spray your hair with a leave in conditioner. (The 14 Best Leave-In Conditioners for Hydration and Shine, Tested & Reviewed or Found: The 11 Best Leave-In Conditioners That'll Take Your Fine Hair From Dry to Silky Smooth Brush from the bottom first and then work your way up. (Brush from the ends and then just move up but don't start at the roots and brush vertically and gently and only brush in chunks at this stage don't run the brush throughout your entire length of hair, and you can use a brush like a paddle brush or detangling brush here, DO NOT COMB YOUR HAIR WITH RAT COMBS OR THIN COMBS) Use just a dollop of hair mousse and spread it through your hair and then brush it down with a bristle brush. (For hair mousse look for cans that say weightless or light hold, I recommend Tresseme or Paul Mitchell for brands, and you can just buy a good sturdy wooden bristle brush from walmart or a general store it might be in the aisle with African American hair products but trust me it does wonder on my white sisters with fine hair) You can set your hair by blow drying it on the cold/cool setting. The cool setting reduces frizz and seals in all that good stuff you just put on your hair. I also recommend sleeping with your head covered in a scarf or a bonnet with your hair in a low tension braid or loose bun/ponytail so that your hair doesn't break and rub against itself as you sleep. The next morning remove your bonnet/scarf and style your hair and if you are going to brush it put some water and some of your leave in conditioner in your hands and run it through your hair to moisten it before brushing. Don't use the paddle brush. Just use your fingers and the bristle brush. Make sure you are shampooing and conditioning your hair and scalp at least once a week. Use a clarifying shampoo once every other week. You've got to do shampoo AND conditioner. Your hair might go through a transition period but it's important to clean the scalp and hair and then moisturize it. If you are having issues with oily flakes I suggest using the Nizoral shampoo or the T/Sal shampoo. As for conditioners there's this list: 9 Best Conditioners for Fine Hair That Boost Body and Shine Without Weighing It Down and this one: 10 Best Conditioners for Fine Hair That Won’t Weigh Hair Down. I also recommend looking at r/finehair and seeing what they suggest. OTHER CRUCIAL INFORMATION: Only put in ALL of these products on hair that is clean or has no other products on it. This means you do this whole routine only twice a week or every other day. It should not be everyday. If you are just doing a refresh then I recommend just using water and one lightweight product.
