Longbearded (about a foot long) here, since 2006. I've tried all sorts of shampoos, soaps, oils, butters and other potions, all at considerable expense. The thing that I've found works the best for me, and has for at least a decade, is "less is more." YMMV Twice a week, I wash my beard with the same thing I wash my face and body with, Aveeno unscented body wash. Works great on body, face and beard. The rest of the week, I just wash my beard with warm water and towel dry. Beard is soft and manageable. https://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Fragrance-Free-Soap-Free-Dye-Free-Sensitive/dp/B075X2KL5C Also available at walmart and other places. Beard never itches or feels dry.
Patience. Give it 3 months before passing judgement. Stop the Minoxidil. Wash with something gentle like this, a couple times a week. Otherwise, just warm water. You can use that product anywhere on your body, including face & beard. It's very gentle and won't irritate.
Sensitive skin - stay away from using a bunch of "products." which can sensitize your skin even more. Try something very non-irritating like Aveeno Sensitive Skin unscented wash. Use on body & face. Wash the beard with it twice a week. Rest of the time, wash the beard with lukewarm water.
