I just did this with an Elevation labs box, and a knock-off AirTag that has the speaker disabled and doesn’t work with Precision location finding. It was placed inside a body panel while doing body work. It will never be found, and can never be removed. This is the tag I used. It needed some slight modification to fit in the case, and disabling the speaker wasn’t as easy as a genuine AirTag, but manageable.
