I am an over packer as well- basically, I will use all the space I'm given, whether it's my car (road trip) or for plane travel. I researched a lot of backpacks and decided on the Tomtoc Navigator t-66 (the updated version) for 11 days in Europe (UK and Netherlands) next month. I love that it compresses down to almost nothing for storage. I will have to work during the trip, and it has a neat back panel for tech. It will work as a personal item for most domestic U.S. carriers (I mainly fly American Airlines), and it fits the carry-on specs for KLM for the flight I'll need to take from London to Amsterdam. It is 28 liters, and I'm carrying a crossbody (10L) with it (Away Small Featherlight Crossbody) to hold my essentials and a small packable sack that I can tuck in my crossbody for quick trips to the grocery store or for shopping. For reference, in the past I've had both a 35L and 42L Cotopaxi Allpa, and by the end of the trip, I felt like I was wearing my house on my back. Here's is the link to the TomToc, and there are lots of reviews on Youtube. Hope that helps! tomtoc Travel Backpack 28L
