Salafi Muslims also reject the word convert and use the neologism revert as in "revert to the natural condition of Islam." Your view sounds similar. In English, convert just means to adopt a religion; to take on new traditions, rituals, and practices. If you have new beliefs after a time of discovery, then that's conversion in English. That's clearly what happens when people decide to adopt Hindu beliefs or practices. It's also a term used by Hindus, like here or here. No need to make it an issue of words.
