First step is to scan the codes to see what's actually happening, otherwise we're just guessing. The cheapest reliable code reader I've found is the little blue $7 ELM327 OBD2 Bluetooth adapter from Amazon paired with the "Car Scanner ELM OBD2" app on my phone. The adapter stays in my pocket as an EDC code reader, and the app is pretty powerful with graphing capabilities even in the free version. The Pro version is only like $5 I think, and it's even more capable.
