I've been cycling on the LFT for 2+ decades now. I've tried every bell under the sun in that time. Get yourself a Crane Suzu full-sized brass bell. Ding it twice at a time, always. You'll swear you'll be Moses himself parting the sea (of oafs) any time you need to. This is by far the most effective bell, and it’s easy to modulate whether you want it to be soft or loud, friendly/casual or super high danger/warning. It’s like there is an inherent and unwritten rule that makes people move over when they hear such a commanding and traditional sounding bell. Yes, there are air horns and shouting at people, but people the oafs on the path need to stop and figure out what the heck that noise is first--and that escalates the situation, whereas almost anybody knows the sound of a traditional bicycle bell. Disclaimer: I do not own any interest or stake in that company. I do, however, have five bikes with that bell on them. I used to be concerned about aesthetics and whether the bells matched the style of the bike, but it made for ineffective pills, and I realize that safety and peace of mind is way higher of priority. Crane Suzu Brass Bell Again, always ding it twice.
