It’s absolutely impossible to find now, but there was a very well-done standard novel written in 2004 called Ghostbusters: The Return by Sholly Fisch. It takes place in the early-90s and Venkman runs for mayor. It felt the closest to an actual new GB story until The Video Game came out.
