So yeah, answer is that it depends. As others have said, a fan itself won't just make it cooler, but it will move air around and make it feel cooler. If the air outside is normally cooler than inside, you can look at one or two of something like this. It goes directly in the window and it can move a good amount of outside air inside pretty quickly. If you have one in a window blowing in and another in another window blowing out, it can fairly quickly get the room to be the same temp as outside. That's particularly nice at night time, but if it's hot during the day it's not going to be great. To actually cool the room with hot air outside you need an air conditioner. Window units aren't too hard to install but a 2nd person to help during install does make it easier. There's traditional window units like this, or newer U-shaped ones like this. The U-shape will be easier to install probably but you have to have the right kind of window, and in both cases you'll have to remove the screen. Depending on the size of the room, you may want a more powerful unit. In general, more BTU = more cooling capacity. Another good option is portable AC units. These are a bit more expensive, but useful because you don't have to remove the screen, and you can easily move it to other rooms or locations if desired. Dual hose is better but more expensive typically. Something like this or this would be pretty good, and local stores like lowes or home depot might have them cheaper. This looks like a decent single-hose option (currently on sale but IDK for how long). Hope any of this has helped. Good luck staying cool!
