We all get to exert some control in how we react to other beings. I have a spider sleeping in a web in the plant directly above my head right now. They built their web last week when I was camping, and I noticed it the day after I came home. I haven't been able to bear disturbing them, considering how much they trust me, sleeping suspended above my head. In another moment of synchronicity to this post, my husband just came and let me know he was going to clean out the shed, and I told him to be careful of black widows, as we've seen 2 in there before. If he were to find one, I think he would work very hard to capture and relocate if possible. I know several people kill black widows on sight, but they are not aggressive. Most creatures that we kill on sight as such are not aggressive at all, yet we use our fear of them as justification for their deaths. I personally will bend over backwards to catch and release any creature that comes into my home before killing them. However, I will say that a few years ago, we purchased a used dishwasher that had roaches. We had to kill the roaches. You cannot just catch and release them, that does not work, and they will quickly overpopulate and become a health hazard. Same with termites. They, unfortunately, have to be poisoned to disrupt their breeding cycles. So I'm not here to say that we need to make peace with every pest. However, I think we should try to operate with empathy no matter what - even if you're crying over having to poison roaches. Being regretful about having to do something that harms another creature is better spiritually than creating false justifications for why it's okay. Not here to shill for Amazon but from an experienced bug catcher, this little contraption is incredibly useful: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JQ5AZK

This one is fun. Here’s another type: bug getter thing
We have one of these, and it’s great! It’s easy enough for kids to use, and it’s inexpensive. Thank you for being humane and relocating rather than reactive and squishing. Spiders are part of the ecosystem, too.
