Can you describe more of why the dog has troubles when in the back seat? For us, we have a ~32 pound Australian Cattle Dog that gets extremely car sick. We have a hard-bottom dog seat cover similar to this one that we use. It gives her a more stable footing and is easy to clean when she inevitably throws up. We also have two different kind of leashes depending on what harness she is wearing. One goes around the head rest area and clips on to her harness and is generally easier to use. The other style clips in via a seatbelt clip and the other end is like a leash that goes on her harness. It keeps her more safe if we get into an accident, but mostly it stops her from standing on the arm rest. But those seat cover things leave breathable space that way back seat air conditioning can get through. And they make a smaller size if you have a passenger in the back as well.
