Sorry to hear about your injury! Glad your son is ok. Just had my ACL surgery 2 days ago so I can answer a few of these while things are fresh. The ice machines ive learned about are either the GameReady or Nice1 machines. Niether of them were covered by my insurance. It was $350 to rent for 2 weeks. I chose the Nice1 machine since it was less hassle, only required one filling of water to run, while GameReady required frequent ice refills. I am somewhat disappointed in the effectiveness of the knee sleeve however, which i think would apply to either machine. Its like this neoprene wetsuit type fabric but its stiff and poorly shaped so it doesnt wrap around my knee well. It leaves big gaps above and below my knee, allowing the cold to escape. I end up using much cheaper gel ice packs that do conform better onto my knee. So only 2 out of 5 stars on that machine. Feel like i was sucked into the hype of it. Bed setup - get a wedge pillow to elevate leg, a strap to move your leg if needed, extra pillows, maybe even a wedge pillow for back. I also got this tray table that turned out really helpful.
