This is industry standard for all mobile devices, not just Android. Blame Apple if you'd like - they standardized the 'bottom middle' arrangement because of music players/speakers docking with iPods & iPhones. (i remember several of my earliest phones had the charging on the bottom, but off-center, so even the docks that used micro-USB weren't compatible) Buy an Asus ROG if you want side-mount USB. Inductive charging exists. Including charging pads with long cables so you can use/move the phone while charging. If the USB port 'wears out' that's on you. I've never had a USB port of any kind wear out - mobile, PC, console, charging bricks, etc. That's across almost 30 years of using it, USB-A, -B, micro-USB, micro-B super speed, USB-C. Use a 90degree bend cable to alleviate stress & pressure on the cable if you insist on putting pressure on the bottom of the device while it's charging. Get a better phone. My Pixel 10a lasts nearly 2 days per charge. I have to work to get it below 40% by the end of a typical day.
