Oh, I just got a durable USB cable that doesn't suck. But I get those for all of my stuff. Did you actually use the search term "durable usb-c cable" there's a nice selection. But it really doesn't matter if the cable is hanging out the bottom or the side it's still going to take the same amount of gravitational stress from dangling from the connector. And it's still also going to be the most likely edge to hit the ground first when it matters because it's not the edge it hits the ground first it won't matter. If anything, having it in the middle of the short side has the least negative impact during the drop event. If it was say in the upper left hand corner of the phone and you dropped the phone and the lower left hand corner hit the floor first then the momentum would be transferred into angular momentum and the cable would be matched into the ground even harder than it would be from being dropped when the cable comes out of the middle of the short side. I looked for the brand of durable cable I bought last time which has been very satisfactory buddy aged off my cue because I haven't had to buy one in so long. The brand I got is a black cable with a braided outer texture a good strain relief and the ends are different colors. I got a pack of red ones and a pack of blue ones. But they've got sort of like a metallic enclosure around the connector body with the little USB C parts sticking out the front. And a tapered meshy strain relief.
