Thanks to this post I ordered some slider buckles and added it to my bag right away. I had tried to just fold the strap in half and secure with the existing buckles but it didn't sit right and felt a bit awkward. The slider made it easy to get the right length and keep the single strap look. The length of the strap as a cross body was fine but I definitely prefer the shoulder length.
