I do emulation on mine and bought a portable nvme enclosure because it's so much faster than waiting for a SD card. If someone uses a tablet daily I imagine that you have a bag to carry it in, so there's probably room for the small enclosure in there.

Get an enclosure and turn it into an external usbc drive:https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Type-C-Tool-Free-Enclosure-EC-SNVE/dp/B08RVC6F9Y/ref=sr_1_16?sr=8-16

Sabrent EC-SNVE about $25 on Amazon Update the EC-SNVE's firmware to fix known problems (it uses the RTL9210B controller) Shop for whatever m.2 NVMe you want to put in it Since the prices of even smaller SSDs are so high now, it's worth getting your own decent external case for them. I see 500GB-512GB at many price points starting at $80 here, have not done recent research on which of these is actually good. Having an external case gives you some freedom to obtain these drives in other ways, perhaps from a laptop you, or a friend or relative, isn't using anymore.

FWIW, I recently had a need for an m.2 USB enclosure and bought the Sabrent EC-SNVE. It reviewed well and has been working fine so far. The toolfree design was great, but I would buy a USB cable to go along with it as the C-to-C that comes with the enclosure is pretty short. https://a.co/d/0a2OFTI0 I think the enclosure will run as hot as whatever m.2 you select to put into it.
