This works for some stuff, but doesn't work for other stuff... They make a shelf liner that looks like a bunch of little foam balls fused into a sheet and then rolled up. It's slightly sticky on one side, so it sticks to the shelf, and it increases the friction between whatever is on it and the shelf. So it makes it less likely that something is going to slide off. But it does make it more likely that it will tip off, if the center of gravity of the item is high enough. It might help. And the good news is, it is almost completely invisible. And it's cheap.
