We have about 6 we collected from our yard that we are also keeping for our almost 5 year old daughter who adores them. We're keeping them in one of these, but oriented differently than in the picture (so that the longer side is the bottom and the side with the door is the top rather than the side). They mostly eat dead leaves and decaying wood, but they also like potatoes (another name for them is potato bugs), and some other veggies as well (I've seen folks say green pepper and carrots are a hit). We keep a spray bottle to mist the enclosure as needed to maintain moisture/soil dampness and so far all is going well! We're only a week in, but we all enjoy them and check on them multiple times a day and I just remove anything that looks like it might be threatening to mold and replace it with something fresh. Updated to add they really like carrots, lol
