I use "Press'N Seal Plastic Wrap" (Amazon Link), press it on over the mesh and then carefully xacto the excess to just cover the mesh part. It look less messy than cling wrap, lets me slide the lid open/close easier, and doesn't leave a sticky residue.If you do end up using tape though, make sure it's not super sticky because if they climb and somehow get up there, they could get trapped in it. Or, make sure to tape both the bottom and the top so that no sticky side is open.
