I am thinking of a similar thing on my place, though the temperatures in my shed will not be as harsh. If the backup is a single drive connected to a very low power computer, maybe you could put it in an insulated container to protect it from the harshest temperatures? To avoid heat buildup it could be powered down most of the time and wake up periodically to do a backup. This may require some experimentation to get right. Your comment about a fireproof container is intriguing. I wonder if a NAS optimized to have a power draw of only a few watts would do well inside an inexpensive fireproof document safe like this one: https://a.co/d/02IQduPG To be clear, a computer would not survive a fire inside this. It is a moderately insulated, semi-sealed container that is heavy and robust, good for a shed. A hole could be drilled for power and data, then sealed with a suitable RTV or other compound.
