OP, in regards to the enclosure, I've seen some in the JP hamster community make theirs out of nothing but acrylic: so, no aluminum or wood whatsoever to hold it up. They achieve this by using acrylic cement. Here is a four pack of 1/4"/6mm acrylic sheets. I wouldn't go lower than that due to durability concerns, but some people do make them out of 3mm sheets instead. YMMV on that one. https://www.amazon.com/Roowest-Acrylic-Plastic-Transparent-Protective/dp/B0F5QDQ4QV/ You would then use this stuff to connect the sheets at the edges. https://www.amazon.com/Acrylic-Bonding-Cement-Applicator-Bottle/dp/B0DS69HMN6/ Note that the first link is only four sheets of acrylic, so I'm assuming that you'd use them for the front, back, bottom, and cut the remaining one in half to get your two sides. You'd still need a lid, but you can use a cheap sheet of wood from a home hardware store or something for that. If you want extra structural rigidity, you could use corner guards and/or DIN rails on each of the edges. Either way, if you're willing to go through the hassle, you can get a huge enclosure this way for the fraction of the price of a premade. 2020 aluminum extrusions are also an option, but that route would add considerable cost. I had some left over from other projects, so thats what I went with.
