Sorry i disappeared after i posted that comment Growweedeasy is an ok source of info, but there is a lot of outdated info and some misinformation. The hardest part of growing is going to be the watering. Almost every issue that new growers run into will be because of watering. I also believe that watering for soil can be more difficult than watering coco, but coco requires measuring and mixing nutes into water and ph'ing it. Making feed water is about the same level of difficulty as baking a cake. So its really comes down to preference. Dont let people sway you one way or another, look at the pros and cons of both style and pick the one that will suit you better. Pros of soil, water only, no ph'ing, topdressing ammendments is easy. Cons of soil is that it requires way more of it to grow than coco and there is more heavy lifting involved, soils increase risk of bugs, and like i said before can be a bit more difficult to learn good watering habits. Pros of coco is there is less coco needed to get the same results as coco, easier to grow 1 big plant over multiple smaller plants, watering is easier, and less risk of bugs. Cons of coco is that you need to mix and make feed water, you need to make sure you ph which does require extra equipment. You have to wash and buffer coco before you use it and its a bit harder to resuse coco vs soil. If you decide to go the soil route i recommend watching buildasoil, bassdropkeys and mr canuks grow on youtube. For coco, im not to sure which yt creators go that route beside autopotamus. For equipment these are my recommendations: tent -$75 2 of these lights -$180 exhaust and filter - $69 fan -$40 humidifer -$70 This will give you a setup to run 1-3 plants. From there you would still need pots, soil/coco, ammendments/nutes, and then seeds. For seeds, multiverse beans is selling 18 seeds for $29, which is a great starter deal. If you want to spend an extra 100 then id highly suggest getting the tray2grow slim from autopot, and then get a tote to use for the rez.
