I’m reading a book called Resiliency rEvolution, by Jenny C Clark and it’s about managing the stress as it’s happening rather than managing effects of stress after the fact. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to link it here let me check…ok I didn’t see a community rule against it here’s the book. The goal is to burn the adrenaline and cortisol as it’s being produced. That’s what cave men did. So instead of freezing, maybe play a one-song dance party. Unexpected. And might even get their attention! It’s a win for you and them. My niece has been trying it in her class, her title is Toddler Professor, she’s got 20 of them and it’s a lot!
