I live in a sugar ant zone and we have “break ins” on heavy rains or heat dome days. I had to rinse and repot one of mine TODAY because ants started to move in. I can’t add anything to the above convo on the orchid handling, but for home ant maintenance I HIGHLY recommend Advion gel for on the fly poisoning. It was advised to me by a professional pest control service. It is in syringes, so you squirt a ribbon inch or two in the creases or cracks where they feel safe entering the home (this does mean backtracking the ant path). Then the hardest part-wait. Let them take the poison back to the nest. It may not be the nuclear answer, but it will buy you time and less visitors as they learn that way = death.
